Regence Medicare Advantage and OHSU: what changes January 1, 2027

The deal you read about was the commercial one. If you have Regence Medicare Advantage and you see OHSU, your date is January 1.

Last checked: September 16, 2026. I read OHSU's statements that day. Regence's own update is linked below. By Timothy Jones, licensed independent Medicare broker in Vancouver.

The headline and your plan are two different things

Regence and OHSU renewed. That is true, and it is good news for a lot of people. It is not news about your Medicare Advantage plan.

If you have Regence Medicare Advantage and you see doctors at OHSU, the date that matters to you is January 1, 2027. Nothing changes before then.

Three plain facts

What renewed. On August 27, 2026, OHSU and Regence reached new multi-year contracts. OHSU stays in network for Regence employer-sponsored and other commercial plans. Hillsboro Medical Center reached its own new agreement with Regence as well.

What stays out for 2027. Beginning January 1, 2027, OHSU is out of network for Regence Medicare Advantage HMO and PPO plans, and for Regence individual plans. OHSU's own release puts it in one sentence: the agreement โ€œdoes not include Medicare Advantage or Individual (Marketplace) networks for 2027.โ€

What has not changed. OHSU says all Regence members can continue in-network care through December 31, 2026 under an approved transition period. Appointments you have this fall are not the problem this page is about.

Who this actually touches here

Clark County sends a lot of specialty care across the river. If you drive to Portland for oncology, transplant, neurology, or a children's specialist, this is your question rather than a Portland-only story. The people most affected live in Vancouver, Camas, Washougal, Battle Ground and Ridgefield, carry a Regence Medicare Advantage card, and have an OHSU or Hillsboro doctor they would rather not give up.

What to do this month

  • Confirm what you actually have. Regence Medicare Advantage, a Medicare Supplement, or commercial coverage through an employer are three different situations. The card tells you.
  • Write down your OHSU and Hillsboro doctors, with the city next to each. That list is what makes the rest of this useful.
  • Wait for your Annual Notice of Change. It arrives by the end of September and describes your own plan for next year.
  • Use Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, for coverage starting January 1, 2027. OHSU points Medicare Advantage members to the same window.
  • Call the number on your plan card with questions about your own coverage, and confirm anything about enrollment rules with Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or Washington's SHIBA program.

This is not the only one, and they are not the same

Three other network stories are circulating around here this season. Different carriers, different health systems, different dates. It is worth keeping them straight.

One thing people mix up locally

A clinic accepting your plan is not the same as a hospital being in your plan's network. Vancouver Clinic and OHSU are separate organizations with separate contracts, and one tells you nothing about the other. If Vancouver Clinic is part of your care, verify it for your own plan at tvc.org and read the Vancouver Clinic write-up.

Questions people ask

Am I out of network at OHSU today?

No. OHSU says all Regence members can continue in-network care through December 31, 2026 as part of an approved transition period. The change starts January 1, 2027.

Does this affect my Medicare Supplement?

A Medicare Supplement works differently from Medicare Advantage. It pays alongside Original Medicare, which does not use a plan network the way a Medicare Advantage plan does, so a contract between a carrier and a health system is not the same event for you. Plenty of people are not certain which one they carry. The card is the only way to know, and it takes a minute to check.

What about an emergency?

Medicare Advantage plans are required to cover emergency care without regard to network. Go to the nearest hospital. For how your own plan handles what comes after the emergency, call the number on your plan card.

Does this open a special enrollment period so I can switch now?

Do not count on one. A health system leaving a plan's network does not by itself create a mid-year enrollment window. The window most people will use is Annual Enrollment, October 15 through December 7, for coverage that starts January 1, 2027. If you think a special circumstance applies to you, confirm it with Medicare.gov, 1-800-MEDICARE, or Washington's SHIBA program rather than with a webpage.

I saw that Regence and OHSU reached a deal. Was that wrong?

It was right, and it was about different plans. The renewed agreement covers employer-sponsored and other commercial coverage. OHSU's release says plainly that it does not include Medicare Advantage or Individual (Marketplace) networks for 2027. Same two names, two different contracts.
