Legacy Health and Medicare in Clark County

What to verify before you enroll, and what has actually changed locally over the last two years.

The short answer

Legacy Health accepts Original Medicare. Whether a particular Medicare Advantage plan works with your Legacy doctors depends on that plan’s network for the year, and it can differ physician by physician inside the same system. We do not publish a plan list on purpose — those go out of date and people enroll on them. Verify with the plan directly, or bring your provider list to a no-cost review.

Legacy’s footprint in Clark County

Legacy Health’s anchor facility on the Washington side of the river is Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center in Vancouver. Legacy also operates clinics and specialty services across the Portland metro area, which matters here because a large share of Clark County residents cross the river for care.

Because Legacy’s local footprint has moved more than most systems’ over the last two years, treat any facility list — including this one — as a starting point rather than a current record. Call ahead before you assume a location is open and taking your coverage.

What changed, and why it matters for coverage

Legacy has been through real financial pressure and it showed up locally. It closed its Washington Legacy-GoHealth urgent care locations in November 2025, and the Legacy Salmon Creek Pain Clinic in March 2026. The main hospital stayed open. Separately, the proposed merger between Legacy Health and OHSU — announced in 2024 and expected to reshape care on both sides of the river — was terminated by mutual agreement in May 2025. Legacy continues to operate independently.

The coverage lesson is not about any one closure. It is that when a system is consolidating services, the specific location or specialist you rely on is the thing most likely to move — and a plan that fit you when that clinic was five minutes away may not fit once the nearest option is across town or across the river.

How to confirm your plan works at Legacy Health

Network participation changes every year, and it can differ from one physician to the next inside the same organization. Do not rely on any website for this, including ours. Confirm it against a live source before you enroll, and confirm it again if you change plans.

    Check the plan's own provider directory

    Every Medicare plan publishes a searchable directory. Search for your specific doctors by name, not just for Legacy Health. The system can be contracted while an individual provider is not.

    Call the number on the back of your plan card

    Ask them to confirm, on the record, that your named providers are in network for the coming plan year. Ask for a reference number for the call.

    Call Legacy Health billing directly

    Ask which Medicare plans they are contracted with for the coming year. Providers know their own contracts, and they will tell you plainly if something is changing.

Two things that catch people out

The system is not the doctor. A health system can hold a contract with a plan while a particular clinic or physician inside it does not participate. Always verify by provider name.

Directories go stale. Published directories lag behind actual contracting. A phone confirmation from the plan, with a reference number, is worth more than a screenshot.

Does Legacy Health accept Medicare?+

Legacy Health accepts Original Medicare. Whether a specific Medicare Advantage or Medicare Supplement plan works with your Legacy providers depends on that plan's network contracting for the year in question, and it can differ between individual physicians inside the system. Confirm it with the plan directly before enrolling.

Which Medicare plans are accepted at Legacy Salmon Creek?+

We deliberately do not publish a list. Network contracts change annually and sometimes mid-year, and physician-level participation can differ from the system's contract, so a published list would put people at risk of enrolling on stale information. Verify with the plan's provider directory and a phone confirmation from the plan, or bring your provider list to a no-cost review and we will check it against live data.

What changed with Legacy Health in Clark County recently?+

Legacy closed its Washington Legacy-GoHealth urgent care locations in November 2025 and the Legacy Salmon Creek Pain Clinic in March 2026, citing financial pressure. Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center, the main hospital, remained open. Separately, the proposed merger between Legacy Health and OHSU was terminated by mutual agreement in May 2025, so Legacy continues to operate independently.

If my Legacy doctor leaves my plan's network, can I switch?+

It depends on timing and the reason. During Annual Enrollment, October 15 to December 7, you can change plans for the following year for any reason. Outside that window, a significant network change can sometimes qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period, but eligibility is specific and worth checking rather than assuming.

Do I need to worry about this if I have Original Medicare and a Supplement?+

Generally much less. Medicare Supplement plans work alongside Original Medicare, which any provider accepting Medicare assignment will bill, so provider networks are typically not a constraint the way they are with Medicare Advantage. Prescription coverage is separate and still worth reviewing annually.
